Students must be logged into Wake ID to access the Meeting Slideshows.

ITS stands for International Thespian Society.

The Junior Thespian troupe is a subset of the Carroll Theatre Company (CTC). Its purpose is the advancement of standards of excellence in theatre.

It is the theatre students' honor society.

Over the course of the school year, the Troupe attends the Jr. Thespian Festival, engages in various service projects, produces two plays, and organizes special after school theatre events.

ANYONE can join Jr. ITS Troupe 89195 at ANY point in the year!

Please email Mrs. Huffman and Mrs. Harrod to let us know when you're attending your 1st meeting!

8th grade theatre leaders who have demonstrated excellence in theatre and commitment to the Carroll Theatre Company earn the privilege of formal induction into Jr. ITS Troupe 89195. These students enter high school with 1/2 the points needed to join their high school's ITS Troupe.

8th graders not being inducted are welcome to join the troupe and run for an officer position. 6th and 7th grade theatre leaders are invited to participate in troupe activities and service projects as apprentices.
"Three Strike" Policies
Pick-Up Policy:
On-time pick-up is crucial to the success of our program.
Students are expected to be picked up promptly at 5:30. If a student is picked up considerably late, it is a "strike." All strikes will be communicated with the student and the parent/guardian. Upon the 3rd strike, the student will be cut from the show. Every effort will be made to work with families so students are able to participate in the program. Extenuating circumstances will, of course, be taken into consideration.

Rehearsal Policy:
Communication is crucial to the success of our program.
If you have a conflict with any rehearsal dates, a parent/guardian must communicate with the directors. It is preferable that this happen at least 24 hours in advance. If a student misses rehearsal and there is no communication about the absence, it is a "strike." All strikes will be communicated with the student and the parent/guardian. Upon the 3rd strike, the student will be cut from the show.  Every effort will be made to work with families so students are able to participate in the program. Extenuating circumstances will, of course, be taken into consideration.

Junior International Thespian Society Information:

The difference between the school’s Junior Thespian troupe and the theatre program:
The Junior Thespian troupe and the school theatre department or program are not one and the same. The Junior Thespian troupe is a subset of the theatre arts program. It is the theatre students' honor society, and membership is earned. Any student may be a member of the theatre program, but only students who have been officially inducted and registered with the EdTA home office are members of the theatre program and the International Thespian Society.

What is the Educational Theatre Association?
The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) is the professional association for theatre educators and includes a student division, the International Thespian Society (ITS), the honor society for high school and middle school theatre students. As the national leader for middle and high school theatre education, EdTA ensures that students have the opportunity to be recognized and to participate in theatre experiences led by professional educators.

What is the International Thespian Society?

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the student honorary division of EdTA recognizing excellence in middle and high school theatre. Membership into ITS is earned by participating in an affiliated school’s theatre program and accumulating points towards membership. Since 1929, more than two million students have been inducted into ITS.  Middle school students in grades 6 through 8 who have been inducted into ITS are known as Junior Thespians.  High school students in grades 9 through 12 who have been inducted into ITS are known as Thespians.

How does our school benefit from International Thespian Society affiliation?
Carroll Magnet Middle School’s membership as a Thespian troupe allows us to recognize the achievements of our theatre students through induction into ITS—the honor society for school theatre. It also provides our troupe director access to the resources of the professional association for the field of theatre education, EdTA.

How do students benefit from International Thespian Society affiliation?
Thespians and Junior Thespians receive the highest recognition due those who have demonstrated commitment and excellence in their school’s theatre program—induction into the world’s largest theatre honor society. In addition to the many tangible benefits listed elsewhere, inductees enjoy the sense of community and recognition inherent in being inducted into an honor society.  ITS membership encourages them to practice their craft and to grow as a person. The skills that they learn from a quality theatre arts education—creativity, self-confidence, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as specific theatre skills—will benefit them in their school days and beyond.

How do students qualify for membership?
Students qualify by earning points for their work in the theatre arts. ITS provides a point system guide for our theatre directors use. The points listed are the suggested maximum for excellent work.

Junior Thespians (grades 6 through 8): One point is equal to five hours of excellent work. In order to be eligible for membership in his or her school’s Junior Thespian troupe, a student must obtain a minimum of ten points. These points must be earned in a minimum of two productions.

All Junior Thespians receive:
• Membership in the International Thespian Society, the only international honor society for high school and middle school theatre arts students—a recognized demonstration of achievement.
• A membership certificate
• A personalized membership card
• Eligibility to:
--  serve as a chapter student officer
-- participate in Individual Events at chapter conferences and the National Individual Events Showcase at Festival
-- receive Thespian graduation and honor items
• Ability to begin their high school careers with half of the Thespian points required for high school induction.

Do students need to renew their memberships every year?
No. Payment of the one-time induction fee ($35) entitles the student to a lifetime membership, the active benefits of which last through middle school graduation. (It is CTC's tradition to pay for inductees' induction fees.) Upon graduation from middle school, Jr. Thespians become Jr. Thespian Alumni.

Do Junior Thespians transfer to high school troupes?
No. Junior Thespians moving to high schools must be inducted into the high school troupe. They begin their high school careers with at least half of the points needed for high school induction, usually five out of ten. When they become eligible for induction, they are submitted along with all other Thespian inductees.

Thespian Competition/Event opportunities:
  • Junior Thespian Festival
This is the only event specifically for middle school theatre students. It is designed to address the needs of the emerging theatre student in a safe environment with others just like themselves. All students participate in workshops, see performances from other middle school programs, create an original play based on the Festival theme in the “Team Play-Create” program, and can participate in Individual Events.
  • Chapter festivals/conferences
These celebrations of theatre on the local level are organized by many EdTA chapters established within a geographic area, typically U.S. states and Canadian provinces.  At these events, Thespians and educators enjoy performances, workshops, and audition opportunities. Qualification for the National Individual Events Showcase (NIES) auditions (held at the International Thespian Festival) begins at chapter festivals/conferences.
